Kaeye Rijnks

20 years in the oil industry as trader, originator, refinery planner, and commercial project manager covers most sides of an oil contract: writing them, pricing them, hedging against them, executing on them, and watching them survive (or not) when the market moves. I have sat on the supply side, the offtake side, and the optimisation side. I know where the value sits, where the risk hides, and what tends to get missed when contracts are written by people who have never had to trade out of one.

Now working as an independent advisor for procurement, finance and commercial teams who buy fuel or carry oil-linked risk — and want a second pair of eyes from someone who has sat on the other side of the table. If you'd like to talk something through, get in touch. Or find me on LinkedIn.

Questions I've looked at

01 Deep dive

"Our fuel contracts aren't our competitive edge — we just need a sense check that it runs smoothly in the background."

Audited a portfolio of procurement contracts. Evaluated the commercial terms, risks, gaps, and embedded option positions. Created an overview to track overall performance. This analysis enabled improved risk management, forward planning, better optimisation, and will help steer future contract negotiations.

02 Deep dive

"We need to understand our real oil price exposure and if we can or should hedge."

Mapped multiple offtake locations, fuel pricing, logistics, and supply chain back to crude benchmarks. Quantified total exposure including natural offsets. Provided an overview of hedging options and where to go for execution.

03 Expert view

"Our terminal needs to offer tankage to market after a lease wasn't renewed and we need a quick refresh."

Provided quick hands-on market analysis with the main dynamics relevant for terminals. Valued different options the terminal could offer along with how traders would look at the tanks — helping the terminal achieve solid business cases on a small investment with a dense spot price increase.
